Pearl River Sports: Pirates Second at State XC, Fall Sports Photo Gallery

The Pearl River girls cross country team once again went to a tiebreaker in the team standings Saturday, this time beating out East Aurora for second place for the NYSPHSAA State Class B championships at Queensbury.

A week earlier, the Pirates won the Section 1 championship on a tiebreaker over John Jay-Cross River.

Kelly Hayes led the way for the Pirates, finishing third overall in the race in a time of 17:56.5. Her time was ninth best of the day with all races combined. Also in the Class B race, Tappan Zee's Erin Jaskot was sixth and Mary Kate O'Meara of Nanuet finished 15th. Pearl River freshman Ailish Durcan ran the second-fastest time for the Pirates, 18:55.5, good enough for 31st overall in Class B.

Pearl River's Brian Cook ran the boys Class B race in 15:19.8, good enough for third. Lake Shore's T.J. Hornberger was first in 15:16.3 and Tappan Zee junior Luke Gavigan took fourth.
