Rockland's Businesses Have Huge Hearts For Veterans
When "Rockland Homes For Heroes" announced it intended to completely furnish every home it built for veterans our businesses answered loudly
The "Rockland Homes For Heroes" Not-For-Profit 501[C]3 Charity is just about finishing building 14 more permanent affordable supportive homes for homeless veterans on Western Highway in Tappan on the former historic Camp Shanks. About almost 3 years ago we applied to the New York State "Homeless Housing Assistance & Prevention Grant for housing-assistance-prevention" and we were awarded a Grant.
We also were gifted from many other Grants and contributions from many other sources. It included over $600,00o contributed from the Rockland County population. It all screamed help to us to add 14 new homes to the 8 we have operated for nearly a decade, which are so successful. Lives have been saved and turned around.
Well, the new homes are nearly ready to be occupied and everyone will be furnished with everything as is in our homes, everything, because our future tenants might arrive with only a backpack. Everything from a spoon to a brand new bed with a mattress, sheets, pillows...unlike some will have slept on the sidewalk. And there will be food in the refrigerator. It will be a HOME.

We are building lifetime beautiful homes in a lovely suburban community [not downtown] with fellow veterans as neighbors and comrades. We are saving lives.
