Woman Charged with DWI after Parade in Pearl River, 3 Cited for Trying to Interfere with Arrest

An Orange County woman was charged with drunk driving in Pearl River after Sunday's St. Patrick's Day Parade and three others were cited for interfering with her arrest, according to Orangetown Police.

Police said Alexandra Massimo, 24, of Angle Drive, Chester, NY, was stopped by town officers at 6:15 p.m. on Franklin Avenue in Pearl River on Sunday following the parade. Police said town officers detected a strong odor of alcohol and spotted an open container of beer in the car.

Massimo, police said, failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving while intoxicated, having an open alcohol container in the car and driving with suspended license. As Massimo was being arrested, police said, three others tried to interfere with the arrest.

Police said Patrick Fitzmaurice, 23, of Blooming Grove, NY, was charged with disorderly conduct. He is accused of yelling obscenities at town officers, refusing to leave the area and then becoming hostile toward the officers, police said. While being arrested, police said Fitzmaurice became combative and tried to prevent police from handcuffing him.

Conor Alvarez, 23, of Mountainville, NY, police said, also tried to interefere with Massimo's arrest and refused to leave the area. He was cited for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration.

A 16-year-old girl, police said, was hit with the same charges for interfering.

Massimo, Fitzmaurice and Alvarez were later released pending a March 21 hearing in Orangetown Town Court. 

They were among nearly 20 people arrested or cited for violations in connection with the parade in Pearl River on Sunday. In one incident, an Orangetown police officer suffered a broken hand.
