Becker Likely Returned To Supervisor's Job In Cortlandt
Democrats were elected to the town council, according to unofficial results.

CORTLANDT, NY — Voters in the town of Cortlandt went to the polls Tuesday and chose a supervisor and two Town Board members.
Incumbent Democrat Richard Becker will likely be returned to office after defeating Republican challenger Warren Smith Sr.
According to unofficial results, around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Becker received 61 percent of the vote with Smith receiving 39 percent. There were 30 districts reporting out of 36 — or 83 percent.

Becker, 70, of Cortlandt, is in his first term as supervisor. He is a cardiologist and previously served on the Town Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals.
He ran for re-election because, he said, there had been many successes during this first term but there was much more to be done. He campaigned on public safety, keeping taxes low and maintaining the town’s roads and public services.

Smith, 60, of Verplanck, is operations and art director at Earth Enterprise Inc. He also serves as president of the Verplanck Residents Association.
He ran for supervisor because, he said, there seems to be a single political philosophy and perspective among the town’s supervisors and board members. He said the town faces issues that require creative, workable solutions that require diverse ideas and critical thinking.
Also on the ballot was the Town Board race which was to fill two positions. The winners, according to unofficial results, are in bold.
- Robert Mayes, incumbent, Democrat, Working Families: 30 percent
- Joyce White, Democrat, Working Families: 29 percent
- George Pappas, Republican, Concerned Taxpayers: 22 percent
- Ryan Mulcany, Republican, Concerned Taxpayers: 19 percent
