Off-Duty Trooper Arrested, Accused In DWI Hit-And-Run In Westchester: NYSP

After hitting a car stopped at a red light, police say she left the scene, drove the wrong way on Rte. 9, and hit more vehicles.

CORTLANDT, NY — An off-duty trooper was arrested in connection to a hit-and-run crash in Westchester County, New York State police announced on Monday.

On Sunday, around 4:54 p.m., troopers responded to the area of Roa Hook Road and State Route 9, in the Town of Cortlandt, after receiving a report of a hit-and-run crash.

Investigators say a 2021 Toyota sport utility vehicle struck another vehicle stopped at a red light, and then left the scene.

Witnesses told police that the SUV continued south on Route 9, traveling the wrong way, and striking more vehicles before stopping at a home in Ossining.

The driver of the SUV was identified as Trooper Jennifer Alvarez, of Troop K. State police said they observed indicators of intoxication, and administered standardized field sobriety tests.

Alvarez was arrested for driving while intoxicated and taken to State Police Cortlandt for processing. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Cortlandt Court on October 8, and released to a third party.

State police say that no injuries were reported as a result of the crashes, and the investigation is ongoing.

In a statement, the New York State Police said that they will initiate an internal investigation, and will take appropriate administrative action according to department policy.
