PEEKSKILL, NY - The Peekskill school board announced that it will appoint Mary Keenan Foster, a veteran local educator, as interim superintendent of schools.
Foster has held multiple administrative posts in the Peekskill City School District, including as assistant superintendent for elementary education and as principal of Oakside Elementary School.
The board, in a letter to the community, said that it will appoint Foster at its meeting on June 20, with a term running from July 1 to June 30, 2018. Foster's term may end sooner depending on when a new superintendent is found, the letter added.

"Mrs. Foster’s well known long standing service to our children and community, along with her leadership that helped shape our plan for District reorganization, makes her the right person for this position as we focus on the critically important task of recruiting a new Superintendent of Schools," the board stated.
A reception will be held in Foster's honor at 6:30 p.m. during the same night as the board meeting.
