Peekskill and Cortlandt Communities Consider School District Budgets

Residents of Hendrick Hudson, Lakeland and Peekskill can weigh in on school budgets before voting on May 16.

PEEKSKILL, NY—Members of the Peekskill City School District, Lakeland Central School District and Hendrick Hudson School District are each considering their respective 2017-18 school budgets over the course of several upcoming meetings.

Statewide school district budget elections take place May 16.

Peekskill has already hosted three budget workshops since January, including a summary of revenues and expenditures on Jan. 24 and an operations/maintenance and technology budget discussion on Feb. 14. Two more workshops will take place Tuesday, March 21 and Tuesday, April 18, followed by a public hearing on the budget on Tuesday, May 2. All budget related meetings will take place at the Administration Center at 1031 Elm St. in Peekskill.

Lakeland has hosted three budget workshops since January, with a final workshop and budget adoption scheduled to take place on April 6 at the Administration Building at 1086 East Main St. in Shrub Oak. A public budget hearing will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May, 2, at the same location.

Hendrick Hudson's preliminary budget currently calls for a total of $79,200,000, which would result in a 1.24 percent tax levy increase, according to a Feb. 15 update. The pupil personnel services and athletics budgets were presented in February, and more components of the budget will be presented through April. Board of Education Meetings are held the second and fourth Wednesdays each month at 7:30 p.m. at Hendrick Hudson High School at 2166 Albany Post Road in Montrose. A public hearing on the budget will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 3, also at the high school.
