Simpkins Retiring from Peekskill Board after 23 Years
On Tuesday, June 17, Peekskill City Schools celebrated Mr. Simpkins' 23 years of service to the Peekskill Board of Education.
Going forward, today, June 18 will now be known as, "Michael Simpkins Day" in Westchester County.
On Tuesday, June 17, Peekskill City Schools celebrated Mr. Simpkins’ 23 years of service to the Peekskill Board of Education. To honor his final Board meeting, the evening included a performance by the Hillcrest Chamber Orchestra and video highlighting Mr. Simpkins’ career.
Numerous guests, including elected officials, community leaders, school district staff, as well as Mr. Simpkins’ friends and family, took to the podium to thank the Board of Education President for his unwavering commitment to the children of Peekskill.

Proclamations were presented by Senator Pete Harckham, Peekskill Mayor Vivian McKenzie and a Proclamation was sent for presentation by Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg’s office. County Legislator Colin Smith also presented a proclamation along with the announcement that June 18 would forever be known as “Michael Simpkins’ Day” in the County of Westchester.
Recognitions were also sent to Mr. Simpkins from both the New York State School Board Association and the Westchester Putnam School Board Association. Each organization noted the impact he has made during his time on the Peekskill and PNW BOCES Boards.
