Voter's Guide: Peekskill, Cortlandt Schools Go To Polls Tuesday

Voters in the Peekskill, Lakeland and Hendrick Hudson districts will decide whether to approve their 2023-24 school budgets Tuesday.

PEEKSKILL-CORTLANDT, NY — The Peekskill, Hendrick Hudson and Lakeland school districts will be voting on their 2023 budgets Tuesday.

In Peekskill, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Peekskill High School, 1072 Elm St. in Peekskill.

The proposed spending plan of $115.7 million is 9.7 percent higher than the current budget. District officials said they were focused on the elementary enrichment program; literacy, special education and math coaches and lower class sizes at the secondary level.

The tax levy is expected to rise just 2 percent, which is below the state's tax cap.

Two, three-year seats on the Board of Education are up for election: incumbents Branwen MacDonald and Samuel North. Voters may choose up to two.

In the Hendrick Hudson district, the polls will be open form 7 a .m. to 9 p.m. at the Frank G. Lindsey School gymnasium, 57 Trolley Rd. in Montrose.

The proposed spending plan of $88 million is 1.64 percent higher than the current budget. District officials said they were focused on maintaining all curriculum and instructional programs as well as extra-curricular programs, such as athletics, arts and clubs.

The tax levy is expected to rise just 0.1 percent, which is below the state's tax cap.

Also on the ballot will be choosing two new trustees for the Board of Education. They are both three-year terms.

The candidates are Tomica Dietrich, Frank Dominguez, Joanna Harbolic, Amelia Silverman and Alea Vorillas. For more information on them, go here.


In the Lakeland school district, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Van Cortlandtville Elementary School, 3100 E. Main St. in Mohegan Lake.

The proposed spending plan of $184.5 million is 5.05 percent higher than the current budget. District officials said they were focused on maintaining all current curricular, co-curricular and interscholastic programs.

There is also a proposition for vehicles. The district is asking for the voters to approve a bond up to $1,486,000 for the purpose of various school buses and vehicles.

Four candidates are running to fill three three-year positions on the Board of Education. They are incumbent Donald B. Pinkowsky, Christopher Eustace, Bryan Hoben and Michael Marx.
