Wartburg Pulls Out All The Stops To Honor Its 500 Volunteers

Those volunteers collectively contributed nearly 50,000 hours of service to the patients and residents at Wartburg in 2023 alone.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — How do you say "thank you" to the people who quietly support a critical mission? Wartburg knew just how to express its gratitude.

Wartburg, the iconic senior residential and healthcare facility in lower Westchester County, recently honored the remarkable service of more than 500 volunteers at its Volunteer Recognition Luncheon. Over 110 gathered at Wartburg’s Gatz Conference Center to commemorate the dedication of these volunteers, who collectively contributed nearly 50,000 hours of service in 2023 alone.

Wartburg CEO David Gentner expressed gratitude, acknowledging the vital role volunteers play in the organization.

"This organization was founded by volunteers, our board of directors, and your dedication to service will always be appreciated," Gentner told those gathered.

Sarah Lawrence College received the "Community Partner of the Year Award" for its outstanding support and collaboration with Wartburg's senior community. That support included successful events, podcast series, book clubs, and intergenerational programming, all of which is credited with significantly enriching the lives of Wartburg's senior residents.

Sister Mary Elizabeth DeBoer was honored with the "Claudia Brigman Volunteer of the Year Award" for her unwavering commitment to providing spiritual care and comfort to Wartburg residents, dedicating over 300 hours of service in 2023.

Home Depot was recognized as the 2023 "Corporate Partner of the Year" for its substantial contributions to Wartburg initiatives, including renovation projects and community events.

Reflecting Wartburg's reputation for commitment to holistic care, the organization offers "Spiritual Care Visitor Training," giving volunteers the tools to provide pastoral care and support. Over 30 graduates of the training dedicated over 2,300 hours helping to bring peace to residents. "Worship on Wheels" volunteers donated 576 hours to transport nursing home residents to chapel services.

Kerry Minto, Director of Volunteers, expressed her "profound gratitude" for the efforts of Wartburg's volunteers. She emphasized their significant contributions in fostering a welcoming and enriching environment for residents and patients alike.
