Drunk Driver Abandoned Teens On Side Of Highway: Nassau Police

Police say the driver hit a median and pulled over. Three girls got out of his car, and he drove away.

PLAINVIEW, NY — A Suffolk County man was arrested Friday night after police say he was found driving drunk on the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway.

According to police, officers responded to a 911 call for three 13-year-old girls on the side of the northbound Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway at 5:45 p.m. Friday. The girls told police that the Matthew Giblin, 51, of Lloyd Harbor, was driving them when he struck a concrete barrier on the roadway.

Police say Giblin pulled over onto the shoulder and the girls got out of the car, and then he drove away.

Nassau Police put out a description of the vehicle and of Giblin. Lloyd Harbor police arrived at his home later that night and placed him under arrest without incident.

Giblin is charged with three counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated (Leandra's Law), three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, three counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, three counts of driving while intoxicated and vehicle and traffic law infractions.

He was arraigned on Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
