Harry Chapin Birthday Food Drive Seeks To Feed Long Islanders

Nassau legislator, Long Island Cares and community partners want to honor the late singer by helping those in need.

PLAINVIEW, NY — Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker is joining forces with Long Island Cares, the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library and the Syosset Public Library to launch a special three-week food drive starting July 16 in honor of Harry Chapin Day on Long Island.

Residents are encouraged to donate unopened, non-perishable food items at participating community drop-off locations. Donations for Baxter’s Pet Pantry will also be accepted in support of its mission to ensure that every member of the family has access to the nutritious food that they need.

“For more than four decades after his sudden, tragic death, Harry Chapin has remained in our hearts and minds thanks to his tremendous gifts as a musical storyteller and philanthropist,” Drucker said. “That is why it is especially meaningful to partner with Long Island Cares — the food bank Harry built — on an initiative that supports Harry’s everlasting mission to eradicate hunger for every family on Long Island.”
