O'Brien Foundation Presents Check to Plainview's ACDS

The Richard J. O’Brien Foundation (RJOBF) recently presented the Association for Children with Down Syndrome with a gift of $30,000. ACDS, headquartered in Plainview, serves families of individuals with a wide range of disabilities from before birth until late adulthood.  

“This is the second year the Foundation is awarding ACDS with funds raised at our annual golf outing," said Katherine A. O’Brien, a member of the charity’s Board of Directors. "Supporting an agency providing the highest level of lifetime resources to families coping with the challenges of developmental disabilities truly validates our mission.”

“Rich O’Brien was our banker for many years, but our relationship went far beyond that,” said ACDS Executive Director Michael M. Smith. “We are truly grateful to the Foundation board for their continuing support of ACDS.  Rich’s legacy of giving continues through the philanthropic efforts of his family, friends and colleagues.” 

The Richard J. O’Brien Foundation is dedicated to honoring the memory of its namesake who passed away in 2010. Active in many not-for-profit organizations on Long Island, O’Brien always gave generously of his time --- especially to those groups benefitting children and their families. 

Started by O’Brien’s family and friends, the Foundation, an all-volunteer association, supports charities focusing on children in need of special care and bereavement counseling.
