Plainview School Probes 'Irresponsible' Facebook Posts
Police were called to Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School on Tuesday and the district said it is investigating social media rumors.

PLAINVIEW, NY — Police were sent to Plainview-Old Bethpage John. F. Kennedy High School on Tuesday and the district is cooperating with authorities to investigate "various rumors" that spread on social media.
Police were sent to the school around noon and stayed for at least three hours, Nassau County police told Patch. They didn't immediately give a reason.
Meanwhile, the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon that it discovered "some irresponsible postings" on various Facebook sites regarding a student.

"We are working closely with the Nassau County Police Department to determine the accuracy of the various rumors noted," the district said.
Officials asked the school community to "be responsible and respectful" of the rights of families when posting on social media.

"The district prioritizes the safety and security of all students and schools," the district said.
Further details were expected to be released Tuesday evening as more facts were learned.
Nassau County police confirmed no one was hurt and all students were safe. They wouldn't elaborate on the nature of the Facebook posts, other than to say they did not involve bullying, teachers, fighting or drugs.
