Church Picnic and World-Class Talent Wednesday

A free concert is set at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plainview, where a concert series is being staged outdoors for a good cause. This coming week’s performance on July 24 is by six-time Grammy contender Pat Farrell. Free-will donations are being requested to help replace the church roof, damaged in Sandy.

Much Better Weather Forecast

The National Weather Service is forecasting a very different week ahead than last week's brutal heat wave. Daytime highs are predicted in the low 80s. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the week. Still, that beats last week.

Free Prostate Cancer Screenings

Free prostate screenings are being made available in nearby Farmingdale on Tuesday at the East Farmingdale Fire Department, 930 Conklin St., East Farmingdale. From Plainview, the firehouse is easily accessible via Route 110.
