5-Year-Old Girl Found Wandering Westchester Avenue, Port Chester Mom Arrested

A Port Chester mother is accused of endangering the welfare of a child after her 5-year-old daughter was spotted walking alone on Westchester Avenue, where Port Chester Police say a Good Samaritan stopped the girl as she was trying to cross the busy street.

Lt. James Ladeairous said the child wandered away from a Fairview Avenue home where her mother, Angela Conde, 38, of South Regent Street, was visiting a friend. Ladeairous said Conde was intoxicated at the time of the 3:34 p.m. incident and was not aware that the child had walked away.

Ladeairous said the child had decided to go home and was on her way the family's home on South Regent Street. Ladeairous said that as the child was near Park Place, a 22-year-old Port Chester man spotted the child and thought it was unusual that the child was alone.

The Port Chester man stopped the child and called police, and village Police Officer William Krzeminski took custody of the child. Ladeairous said Krzeminski drove around the neighborhood with the child until the girl was able to spot her home. Ladeairous said the girl's sister was home at the time and told Krzeminski that her mother was on Fairview Avenue.

Weschester Child Protective Services was alerted to the incident and investigators found that the mother is not allowed to be with the 5-year-old child unless another adult is with her. Ladeairous said Conde, who was located on Fairveiw Avenue, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and released pending a March 15 hearing in Port Chester Village Court.
