PCMS Students Win $5,000 for Don Bosco Center
The middle school was recognized for its school garden they created to grow organic vegetables for the Don Bosco Community Center.

Port Chester Middle School has been chosen as one of 11 national winners of the inaugural Lead2Feed World Hunger Leadership Challenge. Over the past school year, the middle school team expanded their school garden to grow organic vegetables to donate to a local food pantry, Don Bosco Community Center.
They anticipate donating more than 1,000 pounds of food, 90 percent of which will be donated, 10% to be used to educate students. The students’ plan involves spending some time securing more community support for their project. For their success, the school will receive $5,000 for their local charity partner, the community center.
More than 300,000 middle and high school students in 1,500 schools participated in the nationwide Lead2Feed challenge that encouraged students to hone their leadership skills through projects that focus on solving hunger. Lead2Feed is joint effort between the Lift a Life Foundation and the USA TODAY Charitable Foundation, with assistance from the Yum! Brands Foundation. It is teacher-led educational program that combines a standards-based curriculum on the topic of leadership along with the challenge of solving world hunger through service learning projects conducted by student teams. The curriculum focuses on self-awareness, working with others, setting big goals and identifying a national or local hunger-related charity to assist.
