Phony Repair Man Tries to Steal Copper Cable from Roof of Port Chester Building
Police: Man posed as AT&T worker.

A man posing as a utility company worker tried to steal copper cable from the roof of a Westchester Avenue building, according to Port Chester Police.
The theft was interrupted when a building worker at 411 Westchester Ave. investigated a building resident's complaint and found a man with tools, a shoulder bag and white hard hat on the roof at around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said a building resident complained that someone was on the roof, which is usually locked. A building employee investigating the complaint told police he encountered a main who identified himself as an AT&T work. The building's roof, according to police, is the site of telecommunications equipment.

When the building worker asked the supposed AT&T worker how he got onto the roof, police said, the phony utility company rep started to get nervous and fled - saying his supervisor was waiting for him.
Police said the fake AT&T worker had a metal cutting tool with him, and the building's worker discovered a pile of metal cable that had been cut on the roof. Police said they are uncertain if any of the equipment on the roof was damaged in the apparent attempt to steal copper cable to sell for scrap.
