Police: Man Wearing Camouflage, Pistol Charged with DWI in Port Chester

Port Chester Police used extra caution early Friday when investigating a possible drunk driver when they found a man who was dressed in a camouflage uniform, wearing a police-style badge and what appeared to be a handgun strapped to his hip.

Lt. James Ladeairous said the incident was quickly diffused when village police officers discovered that the weapon carried by Jason Jaramillo, 27, of 135 Neuton Ave., Port Chester, was a pellet gun — not a firearm.

Jaramillo was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, as a result of a 6:40 a.m. incident on Friday. Ladeairous said a Port Chester DPW worker came upon Jaramillo's rented 2011 Mazda stopped at the intersection of Westchester Avenue and North Main Street.

The DPW worker reported to police that the driver of the car was asleep behind the wheel as the car was in a traffic lane. The worker also reported the driver's unusual attire and that he was wearing a police-like badge.

When village officers arrived, Ladeairous said they approached cautiously and were able to get Jaramillo out of his car safely. Ladeairous said the badge worn by Jaramillo said "concealed weapon permit" on it.

Jaramillo, police said, appeared intoxicated and he was arrested. He was also found to have a suspended driver's license, and was also charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. There were no charges in connection with the pellet gun.
