Port Chester Flags Flown At Half-Staff To Honor Goldie Solomon
In addition to being a staple of local politics, Solomon served as president and vice-president of the Port Chester Historical Society.
PORT CHESTER, NY — To honor a longtime resident and political activist, Mayor Luis Marino ordered all Village of Port Chester flags to be flown at half-staff through Tuesday.
"The Village of Port Chester is saddened to learn of the passing of Goldie Solomon" Marino said, making the proclamation. "Very few have impacted the Village of Port Chester with such support, commitment, and generosity as Goldie did. Always outspoken, dressed in red, white, and blue, Goldie was a fierce advocate for our first responders and the village employees who always helped try to make our village better."

In addition to being a staple of local politics, Solomon served as president and vice-president of the Port Chester Historical Society. She was honored as grand marshal of the Columbus Day Parade. Solomon also worked as a volunteer nurse at both Mt. Sinai Hospital and United Hospital.
While as a private citizen, she was known as a ceaseless voice for the disenfranchised, Solomon also ran twice for mayor and once for village trustee.
"There is much more about Goldie Solomon and her spirit that Port Chester will remember," Marino said. "For her dedication to our village, its people, and its legacy we honor her by directing that all flags in the Village of Port Chester be flown at half-mast from sunrise Monday, March 27th through sunset Tuesday, March 28th. I thank her for choosing Port Chester to be her home."
