Scammed in Port Chester: Facebook, Video Chat Encounter Cost 19-year-old $1,200

A 19-year-old Port Chester resident was scammed out of $1,200 after a woman he met through Facebook threatened to distribute a compromising video to his friends and family, according to Port Chester Police.

The scam, police said, began when the Port Chester resident met a woman who called herself Tiffany Ford Smith through Facebook. The 19-year-old agreed to talk with the woman through a video chat, which led to the threats.

The 19-year-old told police that during the video chat he and the woman were involved with sexual acts. When that part of the video chat concluded, police said the woman told the 19-year-old that she had recorded the video of him and that she would immediately distribute it to his friends and family members unless he paid her $1,200 by wire.

Police said the 19-year-old went to a local store and sent the money by wire to the Philippines, as instructed.

Police said that since the 19-year-old paid by wire his money is gone. No arrests have been made in connection with this scam.
