Town Officials Expect to Install Security Cameras at RTP
Updates from the Rye Town Board meeting on June 18: Town to Help Villages with Grants, Happy 100th John Rivas; Saint Brigade Drum and Bugle Crops recognized.

This is an edited portion of summarized updates from the June 18 Town Board meeting that Rye Town volunteer media coordinator Dick Hubert has submitted to the press.
Security Cameras at Crawford, Rye Town Park
Deputy Supervisor Bill Villanova, a long-time supporter of security cameras for both Crawford Park and Rye Town Park, noted that the security set-up at Crawford Park – a first for local municipalities – had cost $13,000 for the entire system, while nearby municipalities were paying $6,000 per camera according to a report in the Journal News. T
he cameras serve as a deterrent to crime, graffiti, and illegal use of the Park. Villanova began the Security Camera Project for Rye Town in 2011. He is now expecting to have a similar system installed at Rye Town Park.
Town to Help Villages with Grants
Villanova, noting that the Villages served by the Town are sometimes no longer eligible for various government grants, said the Town could apply for those grants and thus help the Villages out, and he urged Town administrators to explore cooperation with the Villages in this area. He also stated that since Rye Town Government appears not to be going away any time soon, “we should leverage the Town Government Umbrella to be a catalyst for Grants and Programs that could benefit our Villages.”
Happy 100th Birthday PC Resident John Rivas
Supervisor Carvin presented a commemorative plaque to John Rivas, born 100 years ago in Western Guatemala, and a resident of Port Chester since 1973. Mr. Rivas, in excellent health, has been married since 1933, has seven children, and 9 grandchildren. The entire ceremony took place in Spanish and English, both of which Supervisor Carvin speaks fluently (along with Portuguese and Woluf, but who’s counting!).
Saint Brigade Drum and Bugle Corps
Villanova publicly acknowledged Frank Barchella and his accomplishments with the success of the Saint Brigade Drum and Bugle Corps. Barchella is the Executive Director, a local businessman, and a musician.
