3 Hurt As SUV Slams Into Tree, Catches Fire On Long Island: Police

They were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, Suffolk police say.

BELLE TERRE, NY — A crash that left three people seriously hurt Sunday night in Belle Terre is under investigation, Suffolk police said.

A 19-year-old from Rocky Point was driving a 2017 Kia Sportage northbound on Cliff Road, between Old Homestead Road and Bell Circle, when it veered off the roadway, struck a tree, and caught fire at around 10:20 p.m., according to police.

A Belle Terre constable was the first to arrive at the scene and helped remove the man and his two passengers, 20-year-olds from Rocky Point and Farmingville, police said.

The three were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment, according to police.
