After Recount, Comsewogue Budget Vote Closer Than Expected

School officials recounted the ballots last Wednesday after voters went to the polls on Tuesday in school district elections across Long Island. In total, 1,519 voters favored the budget while 1,063 voted against it.

The next budget vote will take place on June 19. While the Comsewogue School District Board of Education has not formally voted on which budget it will present to the public, it is expected to present a budget calling for a 2.6 percent tax levy increase - which falls within the confines of the law as it includes allowable exceptions such as pension payments. The smaller budget is expected to require nearly $3 million in cuts.
