The 11-year-old girl was alone in the SUV when she was found unresponsive Tuesday afternoon, police say.

CORAM, NY – An 11-year-old girl has died after being found unresponsive inside a blistering hot SUV on Long Island Tuesday afternoon.

Suffolk Police say a 911 call came in around 3:50 p.m. from a home on Kathleen Crescent in Coram. The girl’s mother had been running errands with the 11-year-old girl and two other children. After returning home, the girl’s mother went inside, believing all of the children were out of the Ford Expedition parked in the driveway, police said.

Sometime later, the mother could not locate the 11-year-old girl and checked inside of the SUV where she found the girl, who reportedly was non-verbal and had special needs. The mother carried the girl inside the house and called 911.
