Coram Man Sentenced For Fatal Shooting Of Younger Brother: DA

CORAM, NY — On Tuesday, a Coram man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the fatal shooting of his younger brother, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney's office announced. Dmitri Robert, 30, was found guilty of the October 2019 murder of his younger brother, Devontay Robert, 17.

“In a fit of spite, this defendant took the life of his own brother and destroyed his family,” Tierney said in a statement.

“This sentencing ensures he be unable to commit any more violent acts.”

Robert was found guilty of shooting his brother on October 1, 2019 while the teenager was sitting in his mother's car outside a family home in Coram. According to prosecutors, the elder brother was involved in a child custody dispute and was angry at his mother's role in the dispute. Robert has five children.

Robert was found guilty of second degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
