  1. Nearby News: State steps in to halt busing crisis at Huntington School District. School buses will be transporting children to school this morning in Huntington, but there could be long delays and a lot of confusion. The district was notified earlier that Huntington Coach Corporation was slashing dozens of routes for public and private schools. Huntington Coach Corporation initially emailed the district indicating that as of Sept. 30, the company would no longer cover as many as 42 morning routes and 34 afternoon routes to public and private schools. The email also stated that the company would abandon its five existing contracts with Huntington effective close of business Oct. 8. The company has served the school district for 62 years. It remains unclear what will happen to the affected bus routes next week. (News12)
  2. The Port Jefferson Royals varsity football team has brought toughness and physicality to the football field the first three games of the season. In the last two games, the Royals’ defense has given up only 21 points while holding both Greenport and Mt. Sinai each to under 300 total yards of offense. The defense has also recorded two blocked kicks and scored a touchdown over that span. The Royals look to continue their physical play at Hampton Bays on Saturday at 4 p.m. (Port Jefferson School District)
  3. Port Jefferson Library Pink Month: When it comes to cancer, we understand that finding the right words can be a challenge. Whether you or a loved one is going through a cancer journey, learning how to give or ask for support can take time. Having a comforting quote or two on hand can be a great relief when you are in need of some calming words to cherish or share. During October, the Port Jeff Library and the Mather Hospital will promote activities and support for the ones walking through the path or recovering, treatment or mourning. (Port Jefferson Library)
  4. DEPARTMENT 2021 “LOOSE” LEAF PROGRAM SCHEDULE: Residents who choose to bag their leaves must place them in biodegradable paper leaf bags. Bags must be filled with leaves only. The village will not pick up bags containing other debris. (Press Release Desk)
