Driver Killed In Middle Island Crash

The car struck a tree and caught fire late Tuesday night, police say.

MIDDLE ISLAND, NY — A person died in a fiery crash in Middle Island on Tuesday night, Suffolk police said.

The person was driving a 2007 Infiniti sedan southbound on Rocky Point Road, south of Whiskey Road, when the vehicle left the roadway, police said. The car hit a tree, caught fire and became fully engulfed. The Middle Island Fire Department responded and extinguished the blaze.

The driver, who was the only person in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been identified.
