PORT JEFFERSON, NY — Earl L. Vandermeulen High School freshman Alexa Jacobs took home the state's Public High School Athletic Association's championship title in the 100m dash with a time of 12.36 on Saturday at Middletown High School, Port Jefferson School District officials said in a news release.

Jacobs ran a 12.38 in the semis on Friday, moving her along with seven other competitors to the final heat.

Athletic Director Adam Sherrard credited the athlete for keeping up the same pace all year.
