Former Port Jeff HS graduate, Wayne W. Bastedo, dies at 75.

Wayne Webster Bastedo died on February 15, 2024, at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

Wayne Webster Bastedo died on February 15, 2024, at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, North Carolina. He was born on July 13, 1948, in Rockville Center, New York and moved to Hendersonville in the 1990’s. Wayne was 75 years old at the time of his passing.

Wayne’s family moved to Stony Brook in the early 1950’s. He attended Setauket Schools, and graduated from Earl L. Vandermeulen High School in 1966. Wayne was involved in the school paper and theater while in HS there. The Bastedo family lived in Stony Brook until his parent’s retirement in 1982.

Wayne earned a BA from Princeton University, a JD from Hofstra University School of Law, and an LLM from New York University School of Law. Wayne's career spanned several decades, during which he served as a corporate attorney for Western Union and Exxon in NY and NJ.

During his time at Princeton, Wayne was in the Navy ROTC and then served his country as a Lieutenant Junior Grade Communications Officer on the USS Enterprise from 1970 to 1975 in the United States Navy.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Barbara Bastedo Jr. He is survived by his sister, Christine Bastedo Brunner and Richard of Olympia, WA, and their child, Skylar Brunner Bastedo of Beaverton, OR; his brother, Ralph W. Bastedo of Hendersonville, NC.

A memorial service to celebrate Wayne's life was held on 8/10/2024 at the Fletcher Seventh Day Adventist Church. A graveside burial service was held on 7/18/2025 at the Princeton Baptist Church at Penns Neck cemetery where several generations of Bastedos are buried.
