Former Smithtown lacrosse coach passed away last month at 46.

Last month, Kurt Burmeister, a youth coach for Smithtown girls lacrosse, the Smithtown Kickers, and the President of Suffolk County Girls Lacrosse, suffered a massive heart attack resulting in his death later that night at Stony Brook University Medical Center.

Since his passing, Smithtown Girls Lacrosse has created a foundation in his name that will benefit his twin 10-year-old daughters Gretchen and Lili, his wife Susan, as well as creating scholarships for athletes at Smithtown East and West High Schools.

Burmeister passed away at Smithtown East High School on February 25. Volunteer coaches Paul Bowden and Tina O’Hare began performing CPR on the field and worked on him until the ambulance arrived. He was 46.
