Funeral Services Begin For Mount Sinai HS Principal Robert Grable

Mount Sinai High School will be renamed "The Robert M. Grable Memorial High School," school officials announced Monday night.

Funeral services were underway Tuesday afternoon for Robert Grable, the principal of Mount Sinai High School who died suddenly last Friday at the age of 49.

Visitation is taking place at Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville from 2-4:30 p.m. and 7-9:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene Roman Catholic Church in Bohemia with a burial to follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Sayville.

Grable, of Oakdale, was a three-sport athlete at Connetquot High School in the late 1980s and went on to receive a full scholarship to St. John's University for baseball, where he played third base, according to the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame, which Grable was inducted into in 2015.

He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1991 and was later traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. He began his teaching career in 2000 in Mount Sinai.

"He was a great role model and loved by everyone," said Michael Donadio, a 2013 Mount Sinai graduate and fellow St. John's baseball standout.

During a vigil for Grable at Mount Sinai High School Monday night, it was announced that the high school will be renamed "The Robert M. Grable Memorial High School," Greater Port Jeff reported.
