Grad Returns to Speak at Port Jeff High School

Biology students at Earl L. Vandermeulen High School listened as a Port Jefferson graduate returned to teach students about the daily routine of a research scientist and participated in a biology lesson, according to a statement released by the school district.

Adrianna San Roman gave her lecture to science teacher Laurie McMillen’s AP class on Sept. 28.  San Romano, from the Class of 2005, is in her fourth year working toward a Ph.D. in developmental and regenerative biology through the Biological and Biomedical Sciences program at Harvard University.

“I have always been very interested in science. I like to figure out how and why things work,” said San Roman. “The things that I learned here at Port Jeff helped to build a very strong foundation for what I am doing now.”

San Roman is working on her thesis at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In the future, she would like to be a biology professor and have her own research lab.

“I like knowing that the work I am doing will have a positive impact,” she said.
