Home Health Aide Stole Checks From Elderly Patient: Police

The 23-year-old Long Island woman stole blank checks from the victim and then tried to cash them, police say.

A Long Island home health aide is accused of stealing checks from an elderly patient.

According to Suffolk Police, 23-year-old Shaquashia O’Brien was working as an aide for Integrity Home Care when she stole blank checks from a patient at his home in Port Jefferson Station on Sept. 10.

O’Brien attempted to cash the checks at the Capital One bank located at 116 East Main St. in Patchogue a day later, but representatives from the bank declined the transaction and notified the victim, police said.

Following an investigation by Sixth Precinct Crime Section Police Officer Michael Sozio, O’Brien, of Shirley, was arrested on Saturday, Nov. 3. She is charged with third degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and and petty larceny.

O’Brien is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Jan. 15, 2019.
