Area fire departments responded to a fire at a home on Red Barn Lane on Thursday afternoon. This video shows the fire and smoke that engulfed the home. Two people and a dog were reported to have made it out safely.

Two cars collided at the intersection of Route 25A and Mt. Sinai-Coram Road Tuesday afternoon. According to police, no injuries were reported, the call came in at 12:28 p.m. and within 20 minutes, tow trucks were called.

After two more weeks of input – in front of Village Board, Parking Committee, and Business Improvement District meetings – and even a "field trip" to a parking meter on Monday night, village trustees decided at Monday's board meeting to stick with the policy it enacted in early February, when it voted to extend the paid parking deadline from 10 p.m. until midnight.
Monday night's conversation saw basically all of the same points made in previous debates about extending the metered parking hours another two hours – though with Trustee Bruce D'Abamro absent, Trustee Lee Rosner had one less person to attempt to sway.
Village Board Explores Creating Garbage District for Traders Cove
Port Jefferson's village board is exploring the idea of creating a garbage district for the businesses at Traders Cove, a move that some say will save businesses money and keep the area cleaner.
It's an idea the village's parking committee has been exploring for a few months alongside the proposed renovation project for that section of the village.
What Was That Noise? National Grid Explains
Lots of locals awoke around 1 a.m. Friday night to hear a strange loud noise coming from around the Port Jefferson LIPA plant.
And while the noise did indeed come from the plant, a spokeswoman for National Grid – which operates the plant on behalf of LIPA – noted on Monday that the noise wasn't quite "equipment testing" as police reported, and not necessarily something that happens in the spring, as some readers on Facebook had speculated.
