Library Thanks Port Jeff Fire Department

Commemorating 125th anniversary, library created a display to thank firemen.

In the reading room at the is a display featuring books all with a fire related theme and a large poster where patrons and staff signed notes of appreciation for the .

Among the books was a copy of a journal produced by the fire department to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 1987. Chief Charlie Russo, who was at the library to receive the thank you sign, promised that the library will be among the key village agencies supplied with a copy of this year's journal commemorating the 125th anniversary, including the historical society and fire department members.

The department is celebrating on Saturday with a . Russo said that there will be about 30 other fire departments at the parade down Main Street. All were asked to bring their oldest and newest fire trucks to show the history of each department. The trucks will be stationed on Barnum Avenue after the parade during the block party on Maple Place.
