Mather Names Two New Department Heads

John T. Mather Memorial Hospital recently named two new department heads as James P. Cavanaugh was named Director of the Department of Pediatrics and B. Hannah Ortiz Director of the Department of Gynecology.

Cavanaugh, of Huntington, is a recipient of North Shore University Hospital’s Outstanding Pediatrician Award and received his medical degree from Albany Medical College. He completed a pediatric residency and was pediatric chief resident at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Ortiz, of East Setauket, specializes in gynecologic oncology using minimally invasive and robotic surgery at Mather Hospital. She has a private practice at Sound Gynecologic Oncology, PLLC in East Setauket and Mattituck. She also is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at Stony Brook University School of Medicine. 

She earned her medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed an internship in internal medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center.
