New Chief Nurse Executive Appointed At Mather Hospital
Tara Matz, RN, MSN, NEA-BC will serve in the role beginning March 6.

Tara Matz, RN, MSN, NEA-BC has been named Chief Nurse Executive at Mather Hospital. She will begin her new role on March 6, 2023.

Ms. Matz comes to Mather from Cohen Children’s Medical Center, where she has held a variety of leadership roles since 2005. She currently serves as the Senior Director for Patient Care Services and was also the Interim Chief Nursing Officer for a brief period. Earlier, she served as Director of Patient Care at Cohen.
Prior to coming to Northwell, Ms. Matz started her career as a staff nurse at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Ms. Matz is an integral part of the team at Cohen that has helped lead them to a “Best Children’s Hospital in New York State” ranking by US News and two consecutive American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet designations. She was part of the planning team that led to the development of a dedicated pediatric perioperative department. Ms. Matz has also led efforts to improve quality and patient experience. Cohen’s nursing quality indicators are above national benchmarks and several of her units exceed the 90th percentile for patient experience.

“We are excited to have Tara join the Mather family and are confident in her ability to step into the Chef Nurse Executive role and contribute to our continued journey to excellence,” said Executive Director Kevin McGeachy.
She is the recipient of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award and has presented at the Society of Pediatric Nurses’ annual conference, the American Nurses Credentialing Center Pathway to Excellence and Magnet Conference and the Press Ganey Pediatric Summit.
Ms. Matz is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Leaders. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Molloy College and a Master of Science degree in Nursing Administration from the University of South Alabama. She lives in Holbrook with her husband and two children.
