- Mather Hospital will host six weeks of Smoking Cessation classes starting on July 21. The course will be held on Thursdays and features relaxation techniques and stress management tips to help those struggling with tobacco addiction. Classes are free of charge and start at 6 p.m. "To register or for more information, please call 631-853-2928." (Patch)
- Stony Brook Alum Amber Tsai was killed along with her friend, Collin Davis, at her house in the Dallas suburbs on Saturday. The shooter, Edward Freyman, was found later by police dead in his car by suicide. Family and friends are mourning Amber's death, and a GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral expenses. - Port Jefferson Village is welcoming the ‘Port Paws’ festival on July 23 and 24. The four-legged athletes will perform in an aquatic competition to benefit the Port Jefferson Education and Arts Conservancy. Vendors, music, and food trucks will complete the festive day at 9 a.m. on Caroline Avenue in Port Jefferson Village. (Patch)
- A poll released by Monmouth University shows the number of Americans struggling financially has increased by two digits since last year. According to the research, the big enemy is inflation and gas prices, along with "the federal government’s actions are hurting them." (News12)
