Port Jefferson Star Student: Kind-Hearted Athlete/Scholar Always Helping Others
Brendan has a 97 weighted average and is a competitive runner who helps classmates and the community in his spare time.

PORT JEFFERSON, NY — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Tom Capodanno, who nominated his son, Brendan, a 12th grader of Port Jefferson.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?:
Brendan has overcome a lot of obstacles in his life and has never given up on his goals.
He is an outstanding student with a 97.5 weighted average and All-County and All-State athlete, who works and volunteers in his local community. He works as a village camp counselor, and on frequent summer nights, he can be found at the school track mentoring future athletes at the community-sponsored Wednesday night at the Races program.
On evenings before major tests, he spends hours on face time helping his classmates before their AP exams. Brendan loves school spirit and loves to attend as many school events as possible cheering on his classmates.
Hofstra Honors Business School awaits him in the fall and he will compete in Cross Country and Track at the Division 1 level.
In Steve Prefontaine’s famous words, “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift."
