Port Jeff Hometown History: For some of the residents of Comsewogue, now Port Jefferson Station, getting the mail once meant traveling from three to five miles to the post office in downtown Port Jefferson. Tired of the inconvenience, a group of Comsewogue’s citizens petitioned the government in 1888 to establish a post office within their community. (TBR News)
2. Man Sentenced To Life For Home Invasions: A Bay Shore man behind a violent string of home invasions, including one deadly hold-up on LI, was sentenced to life in prison.
   Tyrone Robinson was sentenced by a federal judge Wednesday to life in prison plus 84 years. Robinson was convicted in February 2020 of murder, robbery and several other charges. (News12)
3. Long Island State Veterans Home Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary: The Long Island State Veterans Home at Stony Brook University celebrated its 30th anniversary with a special ceremony on Friday, Oct. 29. Stony Brook University President Maurie McInnis said that the university was proud to be the home for such an important facility, “a resource for and a monument to our country’s heroes.” (Stony Brook News)
