Security Guard Assaulted Visitor At LI Gated Community: Cops

A 68-year-old man was seriously injured, police say.

MOUNT SINAI, NY – A security guard at a gated condominium complex in Mount Sinai was arrested after he assaulted a 68-year-old man who was attempting to visit his friend Wednesday afternoon, police said.

According to Suffolk Police, 50-year-old John Ruggiero denied entry to the 68-year-old man at The Ranches located off Route 25A shortly before 3 p.m. The two men exchanged words followed by a physical altercation, during which the visitor sustained serious injuries, police said.

The 68-year-old man, who police did not name, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was listed in serious condition. Ruggiero, of Port Jefferson Station, was treated and released from St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson for injuries sustained during the fight. He was charged with second degree assaulted and was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.
