Severe Storms Target Long Island: Timing, Potential Impacts
BREAKING: The rush hour commute will be impacted, the National Weather Service says.
LONG ISLAND, NY — A line of thunderstorms is expected along a strong cold front on Monday, and some of them could become severe with drenching rain, damaging winds and large hail, possibly even an isolated tornado to Long Island.
AccuWeather Meteorologist Rob Richards said the cold front associated with this storm will dig across the Eastern states on Monday. The timing of the most potent storms will be from Monday afternoon through Monday evening, according to forecasters with Accuweather.
The strongest storms are expected north and west of New York City, but Long Island could certainly see wind gusts topping 60 mph during any severe storms. That's powerful enough to cause damage to trees and power lines and cause some power outages.
