PORT JEFFERSON, NY — In anticipation of a blizzard blowing through with wind gusts up to 60 mph, leaving up to two feet of snow, Port Jefferson Village officials have declared a snow emergency and are requesting that all vehicles be removed from the village's roadways.
During the snow emergency, in effect from 6 p.m. on Friday until noon on Sunday,
parking on Main and East Main Street is prohibited and violators will be towed. Downtown visitors are urged to use the parking lot behind The Gap instead.
In a message to residents on the village's website, officials said heavy snow is expected with accumulations of 6 to 16 inches, adding, "high winds gusting up to 50 mph will make travel difficult to impossible."
