- Port Jefferson kicks off the new year with the Winter Ice Festival. The free community event is set for Jan. 28-29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. Ice sculptures by Rich Daly of Ice Memories Inc. will be displayed. You might like to know this is a free event. (Port Jeff CofC)
- The first baby born at Stony Brook Hospital in 2023 is a girl! A couple from Nesconset welcomed their daughter at 12:10 a.m. on New Year's Day. Dr. Chris Raju and Nurse Erin Abernathy delivered the baby. (Patch)
- TBR News Media has nominated Patricia Poggi as 2022 Person of the Year for her incredible charitable work. Poggi created the EJ’s PJs pajama drive twelve years ago. All donations collected go to the INTERFACE program but there are plans to expand charity to local shelters and hospitals. (TBR News Media)
- A woman was held overnight for falsely reporting a bomb and gun threats at Smith Haven Mall on Sunday. According to the police, the 28-year-old who works in one of the stores sent a text to 911 saying there were a bomb and an armed person in the mall. (Newsday/Subscription Required)
