Comsewogue's Super Joe Rella Talks Technology Updates

Comsewogue's Superintendent Joe Rella likes to keep his district informed in a multitude of ways. Every week, usually Sunday, Rella sends out a voicemail call to everyone in the district. 

Due to the popularity of the calls, Rella has begun a brand new text messaging service called Celly and has his own YouTube channel where he releases videos detailing what's ahead for the week.

On Sunday, Port Jefferson Village will celebrate Harvest Fest from noon to 5 p.m. The festival is an annual celebration of both the main harvest of the area, as well as, the village. Admission is free. 

Port Jefferson Village Recreation Director Denise Boyd told Patch it’s a must-attend event for residents.  

“It’s just a beautiful time of year where people can come celebrate their families, their pets and our village," Boyd said. "It’s a perfect setting to celebrate fall.”

Locals Participate in $1.1 Million Record Breaking Pancreatic Cancer Walk

Last weekend, Mount Sinai resident Elliot Dreznick and Port Jefferson resident Mike Malinowski came together to participate in the Lustgarten Foundation’s 13th Annual Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk on Jones Beach.

The Lustgarten Foundation has been around for years collecting monetary donations used towards advancing scientific and medical research related to Pancreatic Cancer. The non-profit organization hosts events all year to raise funds including a Holiday Rock & Roll Bash, the 2013 Hamptons Marathon, and A Night on the River.

Blizzard Response Hot Topic At Meet the Candidates Night

Supervisor Ed Romaine and Superintendent of Highways Dan Losquadro at the Port Jefferson-Terryville Civic Association ‘Meet The Candidates ‘ forum Wednesday night pledged not repeat the town's heavily-criticized performance after last year's blizzard if granted a new term by local voters. 

In February, areas of Long Island, including Port Jefferson Station, Miller Place, Port Jefferson and Mount Sinai, all saw an unprecedented amount of snow. Romaine had taken a vacation that week and in his absence there was some mishandling that led to people being snowed into their homes for days. In a question and answer portion of the meeting, Romaine said a lot has been done to prevent what happened during last year’s blizzard.
