Here are the top stories in Port Jefferson today:
- A woman was found dead in an apartment fire in Patchogue on Wednesday, Suffolk police and Village Fire officials said. Patchogue firefighters arrived at the Rider Terrace Apartments and found the woman at the bottom of the stairs, said Joe Frisina, an ex-Patchogue fire captain and current public information officer for the department. Police said the name of the woman is being withheld pending positive notification. Three apartments were damaged in the fire no other injuries were reported. (Newsday)
- The Port Jefferson Chamber Of Commerce's annual Santa Parade is this Sunday at 3 p.m. on Main Street in the village. The parade will be somewhat extensive and will have many vehicles, floats, marchers, and community organizations. It’ll take about 45 minutes for the viewing. It starts in Upper Port Jefferson at the Long Island Rail Road Train Station and marches down to Main Street. From there, paraders will make a left onto West Broadway and finish at the “Drown-Meadow Cottage” on the corner of Barnum and West Broadway, where Santa will be welcoming families into his workshop to take some free photos. - Port Jefferson School District Director of Special Education Dr. Jodi Cahill used to introduce two tenured educators in the district: Daniel Holland and Cassandra Meehan. The Edna Louise Spear Elementary School principal then lauded both teaching assistants at the November board of education meeting. Mr. Holland was commended for his cheerful attitude, sportsmanship and commitment to the well-being of students. Ms. Meehan was applauded for her flexibility, adaptability and teamwork.
