Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Get Lost In Otis' Heterochromia Eyes

Plenty of adorable dogs are up for adoption in North Hempstead. This week, we're featuring Otis — a 5-month-old seeking a loving family.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — For those looking to adopt a pet, a great place to look for your new family member is at the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter. The facility, located at 75 Marino Ave. in Port Washington, houses dozens of dogs — and all of them need a furever home.

At Patch, we round up a list of adoptable dogs for a series called "Patch's Adoptable Pets of the Week." This week, we're only spotlighting one pooch, since no new animals came to the shelter. His name is Otis. He may look familiar, but don't get him confused with his brother, Matty — who we featured back in September.

The dog-only shelter is facilitating adoptions by appointment only. An appointment can be made by calling 516-869-6311. Days and hours of operation are Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Info from the shelter:

Otis is an active, 5-month-old Husky/Greyhound that is looking for his new home! Unfortunately, he didn't have the best start in life — the owner did not know how to socialize him properly, but luckily he was surrendered to us just in time.

He's made amazing progress in a short time here with training and meeting new people. He already learned most of his basic commands and loves to be a pet and meet new people!

Otis is seeking a dog experienced family with kids 10+ that will continue to socialize him properly and continue his training. If you are interested in learning more about Otis, you can call the shelter at 516-869-6311 or request an application at animalshelter@northhempsteadny.gov.
