Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Jax Seeks Active Family, Loves Kids
Plenty of adorable dogs are up for adoption in North Hempstead. This week we're featuring Jax, who is super eager to please.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — For those looking to adopt a pet, a great place to look for your new family member is at the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter. The facility, located at 75 Marino Ave. in Port Washington, houses dozens of dogs — and all of them need a furever home.
At Patch, we round up a list of adoptable dogs for a series called "Patch's Adoptable Pets of the Week." This week, no new dogs came to the shelter — so we decided to just shine the spotlight on one of its resident pooches. His name is Jax.
The dog-only shelter is facilitating adoptions by appointment only. An appointment can be made by calling 516-869-6311. Days and hours of operation are Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Jax is a 1 1/2-year-old American Bulldog mix sweetheart that was pulled from a crowded shelter in Georgia and brought to us through The Shelter Connection's rescue program.

Jax is as friendly as can be, but is a typical "bull in a china shop" that needs training. He is energetic, food motivated, and super eager to please — he is seeking an active family dedicated to continuing his training which we know he will be a superstar at!
Jax gets along with other dogs and loves kids; however, due to his size and lack of training at this point we are recommending that he be with children aged 10+.
If you are interested in learning more about Jax please call the shelter at 516-869-6311 or you can request an application by emailing animalshelter@northhempsteadny.gov.
