Adoptable Pets Of The Week: Emma, Maverick, Shadow

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — For those looking to adopt a pet, a great place to look for your new family member is at the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter. The facility, located at 75 Marino Ave. in Port Washington, houses dozens of dogs — and all of them need a furever home.

Here, we've rounded up a list of adoptable dogs for a series called "Patch's Adoptable Pets of the Week." This week, we're featuring Emma, Maverick, and Shadow.

The dog-only shelter is facilitating adoptions by appointment only. An appointment can be made by calling 516-869-6311. Days and hours of operation are Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

EMMA

Info from the shelter: Emma is a sweet and super smart girl that has so much love to give. Emma has been living at the shelter since 2016, and it's about time this girl find her "furever" family.

Emma loves going on long walks on nature trails, crushing an agility course, and of course, a nice petting session. Emma is the perfect balance of playful and couch potato; outside she can keep up with the best of them, but once she's inside, a couch and a soft blanket are all she needs to relax.

She loves to cuddle up and get a belly rub! Emma is thrilled to meet all people, but she wants to be the only canine child in the household.

MAVERICK

Info from the shelter: Unique and handsome Maverick is a 4 to 5-month-old Shepherd mix ready to find his new family! Maverick is seeking someone dog-savvy that has had experience raising puppies before- as friendly and fun-loving as he is, he needs manners training and structure.

With the right amount of work, we know Maverick can be an amazing dog! He gets along with other dogs but can be pushy- a meeting is required at the shelter with any dogs living in the home. Due to his exuberance and his tendency to be mouthy we are recommending Maverick for children 12+.

SHADOW

Shadow is a 7-year-old Jindo mix with an adventurous spirit! He loves to spend time outside, go for long walks on the trail, and playing with tennis balls. He is a seasoned pro at our agility course- he especially loves the tunnel! Shadow can be aloof at times, which is typical of the Jindo breed, but he absolutely enjoys the company of his human companions. He can’t resist a good scratching session! Shadow gets along well with dogs of his own size, but would do best in a home without small-sized dogs, cats, or other small pets.
